Camp Can-Do is specifically designed for blind and visually impaired children aged 6-12. It has been successfully running every summer since 2001. Camp Can-Do prides itself on allowing campers to have a full YMCA Camp Carter experience like any other child! Activities include specially designed and modified programs like: hiking, swimming, canoeing, skeet shooting, riflery and the giant swing… oh and horses too! YMCA Camp Carter works closely with the Texas Health and Human Services Commission Rehabilitative & Independence Services department to provide staff and volunteer training and curriculum assistance.
With the help of staff and volunteers from the Texas Health and Human Service Commission, Cook Children’s Hospital and the Alexander Vision Center, we are able to provide close to a 1:1 ratio for each Camp Can Do camper. This allows them to try lots of cool camp activities.
